Jean-Marc Donics, Founder

Jean-Marc has always been fascinated on how real assets, infrastructure and capital could be positive agents for change for communities and its various stakeholders.  This interest led him to study both finance and economics at Boston College as well Latin American Studies at the London School of Economics.

Upon graduating, Jean-Marc joined Jaakko Poyry (now AFRY), a global engineering and advisory company, as a management consultant focused on the global forestry sector. One of his clients was GE Capital where he later joined GE Energy Financial Services as an investment analyst and help oversee the firm's investments in structured equity partnerships across the oil and gas value chain.

Jean-Marc left GE to further his studies of the energy sector at the University of Texas where he received an MBA with a Concentration in Energy Finance.  Jean-Marc later joined Lazard, a leading financial advisory and asset management firm where he worked in its Global Energy Group as an associate.  While at Lazard, Jean-Marc participated in a range of advisory, restructuring and capital raising assignments for the firm's energy and industrial clients.  Jean-Marc left Lazard to co-found Donovan Ventures, a boutique energy merchant bank where he focused on raising private capital for oil and gas companies as well as helped oversee the firm’s investments in start-up oil and gas and oilfield service companies.

In 2016, Jean-Marc founded Tortuga Energy, Tortuga Equities’ predecessor, to help address the oil and gas industry's needs for alternative capital solutions for the acquisition and developments of its resources.  Since then, Tortuga Energy has since evolved to Tortuga Equities as a reflection of the firm’s expanding investments across a wider array of real asset categories, including real estate, metals and mining and oil and gas.
